Athlete Excess Medical Policy 


If You Are a Race Director


  1. Complete an incident report form. You are obligated to report the incident to USAOCR. No medical claim can be filed with insurance until this report is completed. You can find the incident report form by emailing Event Services or by visiting the Race Director Toolbox on the USAOCR website under the section Forms and Other Resources.
  2. The signed document must be returned to USAOCR immediately via email:  eventservices@usaocr.org
  3. Provide the athlete the Athlete Excess Coverage Handout and the USAOCR Medical Claim Form. Both can be obtained by emailing eventservices@usaocr.org.
  4. Serious Injuries: Contact the National Office at 719-717-9977 and leave a message if there was a serious accident or injury that involved transport. Also, fill out an incident report form and email to Event Services as soon as possible.


If You Are an Athlete


  1. File with your primary healthcare provider (i.e. United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, traveler's insurance, etc.)
  2. Completes the medical claim form. Contact the race director for the form or email eventservices@usaocr.org. The medical claim form along with all explanation of benefit documents should be sent directly from the athlete to the insurance company as indicated on the claim form.
  3. Pay a deductible. All athletes using USAOCR insurance will pay from $250 to $1,000 out of pocket and possibly more for uncovered expenses.


Coverage limitations. Be advised that coverage may not apply to all claims. Additionally, coverage only extends to participants that have purchased a USAOCR annual or one-day membership and were injured through participation in a USAOCR sanctioned event.
